2012 Winners Selected
Congratulations to the three winners of this year's Young Artists Competition!
Ik Hoon Jung studies with Linda Hayes. He has received numerous awards at the Oregon Music Teachers Association Classical and Romantic Festivals. He has also won several OMTA Scholarship Competitions, and most recently won second place at the 2011 Music Teachers National Association Oregon Chapter Junior Piano Performance Competition. He has participated in master classes with Mei-Ting Sun and Hans Boepple. He is a freshman at Southridge High School, where he is active in swimming and speech/debate. He enjoys reading and spending time with friends and family.

Fumika Mizuno began playing the violin at the age of five. She is currently studying with Prof. Carol Sindell. Fumika is a member of the Portland Youth Philharmonic and its Chamber Orchestra. She has also played in the Portland Youth Conservatory Orchestra and was the principal second violinist for the Young String Ensemble for two seasons. A 7th grader at Twality Middle School, Fumika plays the viola and cello in her school’s orchestra program. She enjoys playing sports, reading, writing, and drawing.
Emily Wu started playing the violin in a group class when she was seven, then moved to private lessons with Suzanne Gaye two years later. Currently, she studies with Clarisse Atcherson. In 7th grade, she was accepted into the Portland Youth Philharmonic and has been a member since then. She has played in master classes with amongst others Jun Iwasaki, Carol Sindell, and William Preucil. Emily is a freshman at Westview High School with a 4.0 GPA. She enjoys teaching violin, reading, biking, drawing, and hanging out with friends.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Cultural Coalition of Washington County, made possible by funds from the Oregon Cultural Trust, we will be offering a $250 scholarship to each of the three winners. We hope you will come and here these talented young musicians perform at our Spring Concert on May 18 and 20, 2012.
